Balisong academy - coming soon!

Where Creativity, Culture, and Purpose Come Together

Balisong Academy is an educational platform designed to help students, teachers, families, and emerging creators explore Filipino culture through art, design, storytelling, history, mythology, technology, and creative problem-solving.

Built by educators and artists, the Academy will transform the world of Heroes of Balisong into meaningful learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, cultural pride, and responsible innovation.

This will not be a place where lessons are simply delivered.

It will be a place where ideas are explored, questions are encouraged, and understanding is discovered.

Learning Through Storytelling

Stories give us a reason to care.

Once we care, we become curious.

And when curiosity begins, meaningful learning can follow.

Balisong Academy will use original characters, artwork, stories, and cultural themes to introduce learners to subjects including:

  • Filipino history and mythology
  • Visual storytelling
  • Character design
  • Illustration and graphic design
  • Creative writing
  • Geography and biodiversity
  • Engineering and invention
  • Healthcare and service
  • Textiles and traditional craftsmanship
  • Media literacy
  • Artificial intelligence ethics
  • Cultural identity and representation

Each experience will begin with imagination and lead naturally toward investigation, discussion, creation, and reflection.

Lessons Discovered—Not Delivered

At Balisong Academy, we believe the most powerful learning does not happen when students are simply given answers.

It happens when they are invited to:

Wonder.

Observe.

Question.

Create.

Reflect.

Our educational philosophy follows a simple path:

Wonder → Emotion → Curiosity → Learning

The goal is not to tell students what to think.

The goal is to give them meaningful reasons to think deeply.

For Educators

Creative Resources with Meaning

Balisong Academy is being developed by an experienced educator who understands that teachers need more than attractive ideas.

They need resources that are clear, practical, flexible, and worth the time required to use them.

Academy materials will be designed to include:

  • Learning objectives
  • Suggested grade ranges
  • Estimated project times
  • Required materials
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Discussion prompts
  • Cultural and historical context
  • Assessment suggestions
  • Extension activities
  • Adaptations for different learners

The goal is to support educators—not create more work for them.

For Students:

Your Ideas Matter

Balisong Academy will encourage students to see creativity as more than talent.

Creativity is a way of observing the world.

It is a way of solving problems.

It is a way of communicating.

It is also a responsibility.

Students will be encouraged to develop original ideas, respect the work of others, explore their identities, learn from different cultures, and use their abilities in ways that contribute something meaningful.

You do not have to draw perfectly.

You do not need expensive equipment.

You do not need to know exactly what you want to become.

You only need curiosity—and the willingness to begin.

For Filipino Families and Communities:

Culture Is a Source of Possibility

Filipino culture is filled with extraordinary stories, artistic traditions, natural wonders, historical experiences, values, and forms of knowledge.

Balisong Academy will help younger generations encounter that heritage not as something distant or outdated, but as a living source of identity, creativity, and possibility.

For members of the Filipino diaspora, these resources may offer a way to reconnect.

For non-Filipino learners, they offer an invitation to discover one of the world’s richest and most dynamic cultures.

A Message from Lee Troxell

I have spent much of my life helping young people discover what they are capable of creating.
I have also seen how powerful it can be when students recognize that their culture, their families, their experiences, and their ideas belong in the work they make.
Balisong Academy brings together two missions that are deeply important to me: education and representation.
I want students to learn useful creative skills. I want them to think critically, communicate responsibly, and understand the value of originality.
But I also want them to experience the joy of discovery.
I want Filipino students to see that their culture can inspire extraordinary art, stories, technology, and ideas.
I want students from every background to understand that learning about another culture does not make our world smaller. It makes all of us larger.
Balisong Academy is being built around a simple belief:
When young people are given knowledge, encouragement, and permission to imagine,                                 they can create things that transform the world.
